Public Skating Tips!

It's an ice skating rink, so it's cold all year!

Dress WARM.  Our ice rink traditionally stays at a temperature between 35 and 60 degrees. Dress in layers - think long pants, long-sleeved shirts, gloves, and hats.  Sweatshirts or jackets will help keep you warm. Wear 1 pair of tall, thin socks for the best experience.

Skate boots extend up and over your ankles, so be sure to wear 1 pair of long, thin socks that also extend above your ankles for better skating comfort. Short ankle socks or wearing multiple pairs of socks can create uncomfortable blisters.

For younger children and adults skating for the first time, we have helmets available. This is not required, but we highly recommend them.

Skates need to be tied VERY TIGHTLY using ALL of the hooks.  Loose skates are virtually impossible to balance upon, and can cause blisters and difficulty skating, so tie those skates up!  When you slide your foot in the skate, your heel should be touching the back of the skate and your toes should be brushing the front of the skate. If you need help, please ask one of our staff to help you. We want you to enjoy yourselves, and properly sized and tied skates are ESSENTIAL!
