For the best results, and the quickest development, we recommend skaters to participate in some learn to skate classes before their first class for First Steps. This will give them the basic fundamentals of skating.

We recommend that players continue with Learn to Skate classes in conjunction with Learn to Play programs. This will give them the best and fast track their player development.

Learn to Skate offers a hockey tract program. Skaters first learn the fundamentals of skating. Once they are proficient in the fundamentals, they can progress into hockey skating specific classes. Here they learn the skills required to become a strong hockey player. Remember, skating is 90% of the game!

Axel's Hockey School - Levels 1-4

Once a player has completed First Steps or Lightning Made and/or Learn to Skate, or already has sufficient skating skills they can enroll in Axel's Hockey School. Participants are required to have protective equipment & USA Hockey registration in order to join.

Axel's Hockey School Levels 1 through 4 is a progressive learning program to develop the fundamental skills for playing hockey. It is encouraged and recommended that all players also participate in skating school classes from Basic 1 through Hockey Skating 4 to learn the skating fundamentals. While Hockey classes do include some skating skill, the focus is hockey skills. The skating school classes focus on these skills and provide a faster progression model for skating skills.

USA Hockey registration is required at www.usahockey.com

Make up classes are not available for Axel's hockey school.

Want to progress as quickly as possible?

Considering skating is 90% of hockey! For the best possible experience and results, we highly recommend players to participate in the our Axel's Skating School program, powered by Learn to Skate USA.

Learn to Skate USA teaches the FUN-damentals of skating skills. Beginners will start in our Snowplow Sam (aged 6 or under) or Basic 1 classes. Once skaters progress and complete the Basic 2 level, they may participate in the learn to skate hockey program.

Learn to Skate Hockey works on developing hockey specific skating skills. It is recommended to take this class in conjunction with Learn to Play classes.

Learn to Play Hockey classes will enhance some skating skill, but it's focus is teaching the foundation of the game of hockey. Learn to Skate focuses on the skating skills.

The learn to skate program is for all ages and can work with those having zero on-ice experience to those that can already skate but are looking for advanced skating skills. The Learn to skate coaches can recommend moving on to Learn-to-Play based on their experience and expertise.
